About our Club
Black Knights Jiu Jitsu is an affiliate of Tu Kaha Jiu Jitsu Academy, supervised by BJJ Black Belt Ricardo Castagna trained under Pedro Pacheco Fernandes since purple belt. Over 18 years experience in Martial Arts including Hapki Do, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We’re part of a highly technical team and offer High level Jiu Jitsu and Self Defence courses to all, from children to adults. More than a team we’re a family! Our club is based at two locations, inside Urban Sport Gym (Birkenhead) and at Dynamic Martial Arts Centre (Silverdale). We proudly offer world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Fitness Classes for adults, kids, families and law enforcement officials, from beginners to advanced. We have been established on Auckland's North Shore since 2014 and offer safe, clean and fun environment for people of all ages and skill levels in our dedicated training facility. We run classes most days of the week and strive to teach our students self defence, fitness, confidence, discipline and have a great time doing it! Instructor Purple Belt 3rd Dan
Coach Eli is a purple belt 3 stripes from Rio de Janeiro Brazil, 37 years old, Started BJJ 8 years ago under mestre Leandro Escobar “Tatu” at Soul Figthers HQ Rio de Janeiro. Moved to Nz 5 years ago, when he started training with us consistently. Eli has been coaching fundamentals class on Thursday for the last 2 years at Black Nights BJJ Academy. Eli received his purple belt from Ricardo here in NZ. Very skillful guard player and beautiful bjj style.
Professor Black Belt 1st Dan
Professor Ricardo has been instructing since 2014 and is the Head Coach of Black Knights BJJ and started his martial arts career at 13 years of age doing Korean Hapkido. At 16 years Ricardo transitioned to Jiu-jitsu where he trained and competed in both disciplines in white belt all the way through to purple before moving to New Zealand in 2005.
After a short BJJ hiatus, Ricardo was back into training in 2010.
Ricardo was proud to receive his black belt from Pedro at the end of 2016.
